My son's house has a fireplace and as soon as the temp gets below 20deg C, he has to light the fire. It does add to the ambience inside the house. (OK, I exaggerated the 20deg bit but not by much.)
Right now the only thing in my fireplace is grackles that keep wedging their way under the chimney guard and getting themselves stuck in the flue. Can't wait till it's chilly enough here to pile on the wood and feel the heat.
@lyndemc Grackles?????? A couple of times, my son has lit the fire at night and after a couple of minutes, has had a Brushtail Possum suddenly come charging out with smoke coming from its fur. He always checks the flue but it is hard to see if the possum is up there or not. Did you ever get to see the two pics of the Rainbows I posted a few days ago. I was thinking of you when I posted them.
@gilbertwood On the contrary. As I said in the write-up, as soon as there is a hint of chill in the air, on it goes. He just likes having it going and it is very comforting. See also the comment to Lyndemc above re the possum
@terryliv Oh my — a possum in the flue. That's likely one hot possum by the time he gets back outside. I'm on my way to the Lorikeet's picture. I've seen it (on my phone) but forgot I hadn't left a complimentary compliment. Maybe I'm still trying to recover from the jealousy. :)
