Spider

Found this fellow wandering around the backyard. I think it is a Black House Spider. Anyone have any ideas? @kporte Keith? It was about 2.5cm long.
I don't like the brown background but couldn't work out what to do with it.

Stop Press. Just had confirmation from the spiderman at the University of Southern Qld that it is a male Seqocrypta jakara (Brisbane brush-footed trapdoor). It's a long story how I have this connection to U of SQ.
I have only seen large spiders in Zoos. Great shot.

That looks like a whopper. Everything is bigger in Queensland.

@karlow75 I'm pretty short Kane :-(

The only thing he needs is a great big foot :)

@gilbertwood NO!! We took some shots of him and left him to go on his way. BTW, it is poisonous.

@terryliv Lucky he lives with you then :)

Sam
Horrid!

Maybe you could have picked him up and carried him around until you found a suitable background. I have just googled and you can handle with caution apparently :))))))

@hermann If you Googled it, I am assuming you ended up at the Find-a-Spider web site? If you did, try it again and have a look at the copyright on the photo they have there :-) There will soon be a male photo to go with the female. LOL

Oh my word I knew there was a reason why I don't want to come to Australia!! I would die if I found this anywhere near me!! I am absolutely useless when it comes to spiders especially large ones!! Luckily there are no poisonous ones here!! Ah yes I remember now why I went to NZ on my big trip and not Australia. You also have deadly snakes - I would be a nervous wreck!! How stupid is that!! LOL!! Apart from all that - a great capture that will be of huge interest to people on the Find a spider web site.

Yikes! I'm with Pam! I'd be running in the other direction vs taking a photo!

@terryliv Already had noticed it Poppo, wondered if it was you :)))

Wow, playing with poisonous spiders now! So a trapdoor spider has a little tunnel instead of a web?

@888rachel Did you see my comment to Sally above? I haven't seen any evidence at all of where these guys are living but this is the second one we have photographed - the first was in 2008. The Spiderman at UofSQ was quite excited to get my first shot as he didn't have one for his Spider web site.

@terryliv and I thought you were kidding about your contact at uni! I wonder where the spiders are hiding. Downstairs under the mat?

Well it looks wicked
