Mungerannie Pub by terryliv

Mungerannie Pub

The Mungerannie pub and roadhouse on the Birdsville Track is the only sign of civilisation on the 520km between Birdsville and Marree.

Inside is pretty typical of outback pubs, full of all sorts of paraphernalia and mementos.

I imagine people are so grateful this place exists. I converted 520 km into miles, and it is 323. My mother lives 225 miles from us, but there are stops along the Interstate freeway that has a 75 miles per hour speed limit. It would take us three hours if we did not stop, but we do. I see from your photos of this trip that you are on a dirt road, so I imagine the speed limit would be more like 35 miles per hour. I'm glad your tour bus is comfortable! I love the scenery, but I am not a good car traveler. I get bored too easily, but I imagine conversation with others helps. At least I'm not walking or on a horse as it was 100 years ago.

These pubs must be like an oasis in the desert! A great gathering place.

Great capture, I love all the hats stuck up everywhere and just imagine a drink coming sliding down that lovely polished bar to a thirsty dust covered customer.

How funny that they all leave their hats behind!! What a great place for a drink which I am sure was very welcome to all those people travelling through. Is there a hat stall up the road where they can buy a new hat?

Great outback pubs. They do all resemble each other.
