A Visit To Mackinac Island by yogiw

A Visit To Mackinac Island

Another beautiful day, we visited five lighthouses in the morning. It was fun driving over the Mighty Mac Bridge (the fifth longest bridge in the world) to get to Michigan's Upper Peninsula and seeing one lighthouse over there. Next trip, visit the whole UP!

Taking a break from our lighthouse scavenger hunt, we took the 2:00 ferry over to Mackinac Island to spend the afternoon. Peg and Bill, friends from home who now live in Toledo and happened to be visiting the island, met us at the pier.

We bought a picnic lunch at the market and sat in the park next to Fort Mackinac eating and catching up. After lunch we took a 2-mile walk up to the Grand Hotel then back into town where we sat in rockers on the porch of their inn and watched the lake and the clouds roll in and out.

The water was crystal clear in the harbor as we headed back to the mainland. I ❤️ Mackinac Island. We had been there before and it remains one of my favorite places. Another delightful day.

@stevepam @gardenfolk How about the color of that water? And this is Lake Michigan, not the Caribbean! Last time we went to Mackinac Island we stayed at this hotel, the Hotel Iroquois. Right on the water and a wonderful place.
