Sturgeon Point Lighthouse by yogiw

Sturgeon Point Lighthouse

On our second day of lighthouse hunting, we saw twelve on the way to Mackinaw City. It was a gorgeous, spring day in Michigan with blue, blue skies and all the trees in bloom. We got to experience Spring all over again — twice in one year!

Several of the lighthouses we found were out in the lake but we could still see them from the shore. Again, none of them were open. I loved the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse in Harrisville though. The red shutters were closed which made the photos super graphic with all the white of the brick and blue skies.

Towards the end of the day, we got to meet the lighthouse keeper for the 40 Mile Point Light. Dressed in his keeper's uniform in a navy blue jacket with brass buttons and a boat cap with rope trim, he invited us in for a private tour. After visiting the museum we went all the way up to the top and saw the lens from the late 1800s. It was our second act of kindness in three days. Everyone was so nice and friendly in Michigan!

@stevepam @gardenfolk It was so fun but it wasn't this lighthouse with the red shutters we had a private tour of. It was an all brick one that I didn't get very good pics of. It was hard sometimes to get great shots. Depended on the weather and time of day.
