Recently on my Coney Island photo-wander-about, I've begun to better understand and appreciate the use of shadows in photography - how they can draw the eye into a shot, add interest, create lines, enhance composition and depth.
I would very much like to see how other 365ers have used shadows in their photos - so please show me your shadow photos by posting some. Here are two of mine just recently posted to start things off:
mine from the end of last month; nothing spectacular like yours, ME, but got good traffic:

@michaelelliott this may be my only real shadow shot which came from the blinds on a huge set of building plans tossed on a desk. I looked at the first comment and it should make you smile.
I hate shadows. I feel like they ruin my pictures. I was SO MAD when I got this horseshoe crab with a... a... SHADOW! A shadow on a face ruins it for me. I get mad and try to be rid of shadows. Shadows distract me. Shadows don't belong in pictures yet they are everywhere in our every day lives...
Accidental shadow in this one... but it cracks me up that the shadow looks just like those one dimensional metal wolves that people put on their lawn to scare away the geese (or whatever they are trying to scare away....)
@sailingmusic - took me a while to figure out when I first started. Go to the photo you want to post. On the right find the box titled "Share" click on it and copy all the data. Then come here and go to last open box for reply and paste the data in. When you hit reply your photo pops up. If you want to leave comment with it just type comment then hit return and paste it.
@michaelelliott Thank you for this topic. I haven't posted anything; just love looking at what people have done. I love shadows in photos. My favorites are shadows from curtains on bedroom walls. Saw one recently on 365. Can't remember who took it.
@ptowncook - You're welcome and I'm enjoying it too. The thread has like 400 views and like 150 posts! I'm amazed at all the way 365ers have used shadows! So many great shots!

Mine from this weekend is not so dramatic but taken mainly for the shadow created by the helmet.
This is my husband also making shadows over my head.
Only a little shadow, but it always makes me chuckle.
:-)
Shadows from the blinds on the window and colored shadows cast through the bottles...
Your shadow shots are amazing, Michael!
Great idea for a discussion....here is my play on shadows that I posted a couple of weeks ago!
cheers
Juliet
