I was admiring Jo Hopgood's colour bar template photo yesterday (the colours all come out of the photo) and she pointed me to the tutorial from The Coffeeshop Blog that she used to make it. I remembered this little flower I took yesterday and thought it would be a good candidate for my own attempt. Well you have to use Photoshop and I am SUCH a novice but I have decided that I won't get anywhere saying 'it's too hard'. So I've worked my way through it - the blog gives you the template and rough instructions but she does assume that you're not a complete dufus which is not appropriate for me!! Also the manoeuvres are a bit different on a Mac. However - it's amazing what you can do with some random clicking and after rather longer than expected here is the finished result. Of course now that I've learnt how to do it you may be getting loads! See http://365project.org/jlhopgood/365/2012-09-04 for Jo's lovely work and directions to the blog. The date has reverted to the date of the blog post but I have been slaving away on it this afternoon. Will have to work tonight instead now!
3 good things:
1. Learning something new
2. Remembering something old (been grappling with GCSE physics)
3. Adam's wearing the new cycle helmet I bought him :0)
Oh just like a Farrar & Ball paint catalogue, you just need a good name such as egg yolk yellow or similar! I must check out Photoshop but Jack says he thinks it will be too hard for me & he might be right! Love the way you have arranged this photo, perfect focus & the colours together are wonderful. I think you should take your talents with this photography game further , this is a very marketable thing you do on this site!
@happypat I think I don't even chip the surface of what it's capable of - feel quite a sense of achievement with this (even though the hard work has been done for me with the template) so will try something else.
This looks so appealing with the colour chart highlighting the colours. I thought Joanna Hopgood rang a bell so I checked my email address book. Sure enough she did some family photos for us almost 5 years ago when she was just starting out with her new photography business. She had a studio set up in her house, and she lived near my son so it was convenient for us all to get together. By the way the carrot and marigold cake didn't really taste any different it just looked pretty! I asked Peter just now about how he kept the plum tree free of bugs and he just said 'chemicals'. You know what guys are like - never give you too much information. He's now gone out with the dog so I still don't know exactly what he used!
All this is so interesting. I think its the same little yellow flower I posted a week or so ago, and I identified it as Coltsfoot but I am not certain.
@jgpittenger Very happy about that. And it has a built in light at the back. I thought he'd just stopped using it because of the cool factor but it turns out that he really needed an XL size!
I love this idea and good on you for working out how! I'm still picmonkeying and ribbeting as I'm an absolute dufus when it comes to technology too! I've promised myself that when I've finished studying (only two more long years to go...) I'll reward myself with time to learn these things, although a 'small' child may need to be at hand when I do ;o) I look forward to seeing more of these xx
@phil_howcroft Thanks Phil! Dont know if i picked the best shades - just relieved id hot that damn dropper to work. I'm pretty sure Elements is OK - the template (see Jo's link) is a psd file with all the layers set up. Still took me a while to work it out but I haven't used it for ages.
good work mrs
You used a lovely shot.
Judging by the comments on this shot , I think you may have started a '365 colour bar' rush....Oh and the original pic is lovely too
