I'm afraid this is from yesterday as today was duller than the dullest dull day in Dullingham. Nice to see catkins bursting forth. Does anybody still have a telephone connected by an aerial wire rather than an underground cable? I was wondering about it as I walked Monty to the beauty parlour the other day and watched a man mending one. It will be quite sad when they are all removed from our urban skyscape I think.
Three good things:
1. I cleaned out the henhouse before breakfast.
2. Nigel safely back from getting Rachel safely back.
3. 'Call the Midwife' on at 8pm. I'll be on my own with it - do any men watch it?! I spend all my time thinking what fantastic photos you could take on the set - it's beautifully filmed. I love all those aerial shots of the cycling and the docks and the little carefully arranged areas of tin baths etc.
Like your review of todays weather. My review was similar. Why can't nice skies stick around? Also, I think you were born in the wrong era possibly. I said hi to he Plums for you on Saturday btw.
We've got the same brief encouraging days of sunshine and blue skies followed by days and days of cloud cover. I do like the soft round shapes of nature contrasting with the wires and poles
@fueast PS Sadly will be ferrying around hockey pitches on Sat but being allowed out to London gathering on 28th - can you skive off and get down there? Don't know actually if @sparkle can do that date and it's confirmed but hopefully....e
nice focus on this - I was about to whinge that you got blue skies when all we got was miserable greys today - then I saw it was taken yesterday - you are forgiven!! :o)
Where I love now all the wires are underground but my hometown still depends on poles. What I'd miss about poles especially is the smell of creosote on hot days -- just like the boardwalk at the ocean. By the way, are you planning a 365 meetup in London? I'm thinking about spending a couple of weeks in England this summer. How would I know if a meetup is scheduled and would it be okay for me to join the group?
@catwoman2 They are quite often posted in the discussion threads and if there isn't one you could start one a couple of weeks before you arrive and I'm sure people will try to make it - everyone welcome!
In new housing developments, the wires are underground here in my part of the States. Ours are all above ground - you can hear crackling on windy days. ooo - I'll have to see when Call the Midwife is on here! Was finally caught up and the season ended.
We are still overground but do now have BT Fibre Optic at the end of the road :) And, all of the boys in this house refuse to watch the program with all the screaming - so Jules watches it on her own and worse still it clashes with Top Gear lol
Yes, we still have overhead telephone wire!! Lovely dangly catkins against such a blue sky! Btw, my husband was a medical student delivering his 40-odd quota of babies in Poplar at exactly that time! But he hasn't watched the series!
@tishpics No! How could he not?!! I'm slowly converting Nigel who has felt too bad the last couple of Sunday's to watch sport until 8 and then leave me on my own, but Adam stays doggedly out of the way - too much 'women's stuff' for a 16 year old to watch with his parents! Your husband must have some stories to tell though (could have made a fortune if he'd written a book!). I liked the bit with the doctor and the nun sharing a cigarette this week - they won't be able to show it in Wales where smoking on the TV is banned! I read one of the books and the TV series seems to have stuck very close to it.
Lovely to see first signs of spring especially against such a blue sky. Saw first catkins yesterday but was driving at the time and it was dull! We are allowed to SEE smoking on the TV in Wales but they are jist not allowed to smoke on a film set here! Plenty of telephone cables here too and will be for a long time I'm sure.
Lovely to see the catkins against that blue, blue sky. I'm laughing at your comment re. Call the Midwife. As the only female in a houseful of males I'm a lone watcher too. It was lovely last weekend to be able to watch with my daughter :o) xx
