I had hoped that I'd be able to send my furry hat, which is starting to smell alarmingly like damp dog even when dry, on its summer vacation very soon but sadly the temperatures have dropped again. In other news Monty was entertained in the park by a nice young man with learning difficulties. He was clearly a bit lonely - I should have left the dog with him for an hour while I went off photo-ing - so we chatted for a while and then I managed to continue on our walk before I froze to death. A few bike shots called to me today - I'm not actually sure that this is my favourite now I come to look at it but these are the steps you come down after graduating and I like all the different types of stonework. Don't be surprised if you get another tomorrow. I did play around with contrast but in the end went for straight B&W conversion - too subtle?
Three good things:
1. Adam slowly on the mend now.
2. Book Club tonight (though I haven't read the book - ooops - thought I had another few weeks).
3. Scarves.
Re no 2 ...you'll have to blag it Judith, flick through it read the blurb!!
I do love our cobbled stone streets & all the patterns therein. The wicker basket is so Cambridge & goes perfectly with the different textures. Cold here too & you need a scarf.
I adore this Judith. I like the subtle contrast and how that allows my eye to really enjoy the stonework as well as the bicycle and basket. Bummer re your cold weather. I just read the weather report for Hawaii where I am going on Saturday and it is supposed to rain for the foreseeable future. Argh!
@judithg My fav lens is a 40mm prime. You have to think differently when you use it but the discipline required can be very creative - as your pic shows.
I think this is your bike with a basket, it appears in quite a few of your shots. Is the basket for Monty? Love the simplicity of this composition and looks great in b&w
I found one of these baskets buried under the snow on Sunday in Cambridge. Sounds like I'm returning to more cold weather? Looking forward to the smell of wet dog
Excellent photo, Judith, I love the different lines that lead me to the basket. The contrast and exposure it has now communicates a rather dim quiet grey day. I might prefer a small amount more contrast and exposure, but I like this quite well as it is so I don't think a lot of adjustment is desired.
@anwan Hahaa - well that's an accurate assessment of the weather! I kept fiddling and then going back - bit brighter large I think - this one definitely does seem to need to be bigger rather than smaller...
the steps lead us into the shot judith....as for too subtle...i think it's fine as it .....if you upped the contrast the step wall would get blown out !
I'm very cunning at Book Club with books - say that I was not too impressed by it but welcomed any other thoughts. Then I sit back and smile! These are very narrow steps to come down after graduating!
