Second Class by judithg

Second Class

Absolutely dreadful weather so the perfect excuse to fill in with some London photos. The Lloyd's of London building in the background used to dominate this part of the city but no longer. All around it much taller buildings are being squeezed in to very small spaces. I happen to have lunched in the Chairman's office in the Lloyd's Building (get me!) and it's got lovely Persian carpets and classical works of art rather than industrial chic.
3GT
1. Nigel's dad promised to walk the dog before it was clear that the day would feature prolonged torrential rain - and he didn't back out!
2. The pond's full.
3. I listened to a six year old football (soccer) mad girl on 'Woman's Hour' this morning. She said, 'My dad supports Blackburn Rovers even though he knows they're rubbish'. Made me chuckle - and she holds no truck with girly girls who don't play sports.
Very creative shot. Yes our rain-barrel's full - after I left the tap open and released all the water last week!

I like the crop and that huge pill box mouth waiting for letters. I should think the pond must be nearly overflowing with all this rain let alone full!

@busylady Well at least it will be fresh! @jennywren Trying not to get depressed!!

Lovely contrast between the old and new and lovely DOF xx

Wonderful to see these original post boxes still in use in this ultra chic city area of London...a great contrast of new architecture & the old & beautiful red boxes...there is some sense in the planners minds after all!
I remember you taking this so great to see how fab it's turned out Judith.

@judithg The forecast for Sat and Sunday is at least better. We have actually lit our fire today to cheer ourselves up with the glow.

I just love the way you have composed this, old traditional with (fairly) new. Very clever. This building reminds me of when I used to cycle straight through the City from the East India Dock Road to St Bartholomews Hospital when I worked as a nurse. I think things are very different now! FAV

I agree with Lucy, the juxtaposition of old and new, with that burst of red is great!
May 24th, 2013
May as well send second class, methinks!
May 24th, 2013
Get you, indeed! Great composition, the traditional and the modern-ish. Very nicely done.

@lucypics Very Call the Midwife!

I used to meet clients in there in olden days - great lifts. I heard that thing on Women's hour. That girl was fab "they meet a boy and fall in love and think they are going to marry them, but they wont" or something like that.

ps almost forgot to say - great photo too

@jantan I know bless her - I thought she was about ten she was so sure of herself - bit pointless asking if the boys were mean to her - they wouldn't dare! Was texting Rachel about childhood parties last night as there was an ridiculous FB kerfuffle from somebody and she said she could only remember going to football parties!

So nice to see the old fashioned post boxes. We had torrential rain here most of the day and cold wind, so different from yesterday, when we were walking in the bluebell woods. btw thank you for your comment

The rain seems to be so constant over there it is no wonder England is so green! Love this iconic structure!

Love the pop of red and the composition.
May 25th, 2013
Love the red against the silver of the Lloyds building. Love the 3 GTs :)
May 26th, 2013
I like the way the two circular shape match each other but are stil very different - nice balance of sameness and difference! Sounds like a great father-in-law ;).
May 26th, 2013
I agree with all the others, the contrast between the red and silver is quite striking.
May 26th, 2013
You are so very clever! Great juxtaposition! (And It thought in English class 40 years ago that I would never be able to use that word in real life).
May 27th, 2013
Great shot. How do you get to post first class?
May 28th, 2013
