Bit of a diary shot today. I arranged for two tree fellers to come and remove a diseased laburnum tree from our garden but one was ill so they cancelled. So Nigel and I decided to go for it ourselves. This is not untypical behaviour for Nigel but I am more risk averse. Anyway it was a good 30 feet tall but I paced around it a great deal and we attacked it in a fairly logical manner. Nigel was saw man, I was stand on ladder woman and Adam was rope boy and apart from one moment when Adam managed to avert disaster as a big log was falling on my head (not a crash helmet in site I'm afraid - I supposed I should have worn my cycle helmet - didn't think of that!) we didn't do a bad job. There is still the main trunk left which needs a chainsaw but most is down. Here I was wielding secateurs to take off the leaves and small branches to make the rest of the wood look at bit smaller - the whole lawn was full of tree at one point. Monty obviously thought we were crazy - I had to rush in and give him milk as he'd gnawed at a poisonous laburnum branch and was grimacing.
Three GT:
1. No tree related injuries as yet.
2. A bit more light although the neighbour's enormous walnut seemed to expand to fill the gap.
3. I made yummy rhubarb and vanilla jam in the afternoon - never tried it before and I hate the rhubarb going to waste - just need some croissants...
@fueast Yeeeaahh - well I've persuaded Nigel that we can have a fire pit outside but most will probably rot in its own natural ecosystem. Having said that it's full of a deadly tree fungus so it may be in the interests of all trees for my neighbour to stick it in his wood burner.....
Must have missed this one......looks a real hive of industry here.....Cathy & Garth had to have a tree felled today.....she filmed it with great excitement. Your garden looks lovely or will be when all tidied up! Monty looks in fine fettle!
