By popular demand - another big thing - the big earthworm

Yep, this is the big earthworm at Wildlife Wonderland Bass Hwy - I really need to go back when the hwy is less busy so I can get a shot from the front on the worm, which is best done from the hwy. The big earthworm is covered in paintings, much in a stylised faux version of aboriginal painting and is covered in Australian wildlife. One end of the worm disappears into a building at the park.

Why a giant earthworm you may be asking yourself, well, this area of Victoria - Gippsland is home to a species of giant worm Megascolides australis which averages 1m (appr 3ft) and can reach 3m (appr 9ft), they also have a long lifespan, taking 5 years to reach maturity. European colonisation has lead to a decline in numbers and they are now a protected species.

Not one of the more impressive big things, I guess that comes with the territory being a worm
Wow that is so cool! Great shot! Thanks for sharing!

@jenrobcarr yep, will be heading back there sometime in the next few days, the island has been inundated by visitors and bumper to bumper traffic at a crawl is a sign for me that it is time to be elsewhere

@lbmcshutter good luck, i hope work is OK when you go back and that all goes well x
Poor old Phillip Is, they should put a gate up and stop too many people going there

You sure have found a lot of BIG things to photograph! I will endevour to get one of Exmouths big Prawn for you!

@bobfoto I've only seen them once, a teacher brought them to school to show us. I'd have to go out and dig a deep hole (nd I'm feeling too lazy in this weather to fancy digging a hole) and as they are possibly endangered too, I'm not likely to dig one up. Apparently this place used to be a big earthworm museum and exhibit, I'm not sure if it is anymore, I think these days it is more a place to pet kangaroos, koalas and wombats. I just don't think it is likely I will be finding any big worms to show you in the next few days, and my 365 is up on 31st, and I'll be back in my boring Canberra existence.

Congrats on your 365--- I did not realize you were so far advanced in it! Is there a 2nd year on the horizon? I sure hope so!
