Pakistan vehicles part IX - hail the returning heroes

fresh roses cover these cars which conveyed sporting heroes - I think it was the Pakistan cricket team. I spotted this cavalcade when I walked up to my local shopping centre, was glad to I had a camera in my bag to grab a shot of these 4x4 covered in red rose buds. Not the perspective I would have chosen, but i didn't really have many alternate options without risking being run down by other vehicles. I thought it may have been a wedding party but someone mentioned it was for sportsmen, apparently if it were a wedding there'd be a heart made of flowers on the car - of course, I should have thought of that.

I liked the shops, in spring/summer one could buy bunches of flowers and strawberries. The strawberries would be weighed on a handheld balance, with little weights, the roses were more like the home grown variety, spindly smaller stems, but about $1 a bunch of 10-12, the vendor seated on the ground would then strip off the leaves and thorns and bind the bunch with cotton thread.

In colder weather men would set up a homestyle fryer on the footpath, a long power cord extending into the nearest shop, they'd peel and chop potatoes into chips and fry them on the spot, the packet ingeniously made from pages from old phone books, the packet with the hot chips inserted into a larger packet - you'd have the option of having them sprinkled with salt, paprika or some spicy chilli mix
wow could have been some big stars in these cars!
hope all is going well in Canberra!!!

Wonderful shot.I like the idea of decorating with something biodegradable as opposed to a ticker tape parade. The cars are quite stunning decked out in red.

Striking procession, there seems to be a great deal of visual symbolism in the the culture. A rich environment for a photographer. Like the framing.

That's a lot of work! All for sports people. Thanks for sharing this, even if I ever get to this part of the world what are the chances I would see somethinng like this.

What a procession! They certainly do take pride in their cars - and their cricket team! Beautiful but I cringe at the waste of roses (!!) mind you I believe they had just beaten arch-rivals India so perhaps they thought it was worth it.

Do you still the ink the cricket team would be still heroes after the betting scams and jailings. Great shot

Their sports stars obviously have movie star status - imagine the hours and hours of work on each of these vehicles! I wonder what they do with the roses at the end??
