Film Feb - Fairy Chimneys - open air museum Goreme Cappadocia - Chook Valley
I was directed to make contact with a carpet seller in Urgup in Cappadocia and he taught me about carpets, sold me a few and taught me about the area. Also ensured I got to sample some of the local delicacies.
He and his young offsider taught me some words of Turkish. They then asked me to teach them some uniquely Australian words. I mentioned "chook" for chicken which sent them into paroxysms of laughter, it seems chook was a Turkish slang word for penis. They explained the area I had visited with all the fairy chimneys was sometimes referred to as "chook" valley.
@shepardx2 this particular place had been used as a monastery, some of the stone chimneys were used as chapels, some prayer retreats and some had been for storage
Ha!! Gosh what an incredible view - it looks amazing then you spot the people and realise how towering they are. Chook valley, huh? Well that's two new things I've learned in 365 now !!
@filsie65 I used to curse having random people in my shots, but looking back at this shot I had been thinking what a great sense of scale it gave to it, I'm so glad you noticed this too
