I love seeing the architecture of different countries, particularly religious architecture temples, shrines, churches, cathedrals, mosques and so on are all fascinating. I bought a tiny balsa model of this shinto shrine and a lovely bell - in Japan bells play a role n both Shinto and Buddhist ceremonies. At another temple area which features a giant buddha I bought a buddha lollypop - it is somewhat bizarre to eat a buddha lollypop
I'm pretty sure that at the time I was cursing this little old lady for wandering into shot, now I appreciate the sense of scale a human figure can provide
Beautiful shrine. What amazes me about Japanese architecture is how the beams are put together for make the building resistant to earthquakes. Like the composition of the large evergreen on the left.
Wonderfully composed shot, the greens and earthy tones are soothing. I think the woman draws me in to contemplate the shrine as she obviously is. The fellow sitting beyond her gives a nice sense of scale. I get a feeling of pilgrimage rather than plain tourism from this, a sense of respect if you will.
That is such an elegant building - love the lines of the roofs in particular. I agree with Robert @robv - her stance is one of interest and wonder, rather like mine, and she gives a great sense of scale. Love the shot and the gentle colours you've captured!
(Buddha lollipop? you kidding?!)
The onlooker and sitting man give a good sense of scale and her gaze draws ours to the focal point of the picture, so you did well to include her. Very nice shot.
