The Tokyo tower was right by my hotel and also loomed over a buddhist shrine, something wonderful about the contrasts. The tower which was inspired by the Eiffel tower, is a communications and observation tower and is painted orange and white to comply with air safety regulations. The orange and white does somewhat spoil the resemblance to the Eiffel tower, but does it make it stand out when illuminated in the evening.
I have always liked this shot but always wished I'd had a tripod instead of having to try to hold the camera steady by hand.
Great night shot, the tower seems to be a cultural icon. I've seen it in so many anime and Japanese films. It has a similar feel to the Golden Gate Bridge when viewed at night, the bright glowing swatch of color against black sky.
