10 years ago I took this my second ever digital photo (not sure what happened to the first) ...On this day in 2002

Not a particularly exciting or technically interesting photo - but significant in my personal photography history.

Rhodes Greece, Medusa mosaic - Palace of the Grand Masters - estimated to date from 2nd Century BC
I purchased my first ever SLR in December 2001 - an APS film SLR (negative size gave equivalent of a crop sensor) and my first 35mm SLR t Easter 2002 and on 31 December 2002 I bought my first ever digital camera - a phenomenally expensive Canon IXUS v3 - with 3.8MP it was one of the higher MP counts available to the consumer at the time. I was visiting Rhodes in Greece when I bought it and this is the second shot I took (I suspect I deleted the first).
The mosaics were amazingly detailed and beautiful and the history of Rhodes fascinating - especially int the street of the knights - a base for the knights crusading in the middle east. On January 1, 1523 the Knights Hospitaller (Knights of St John)departed from the island (for Malta), leaving it to Ottoman control.
v cool. Love a good mosaic!

@lbmcshutter - will have to add it to the ever growing bucket list?

@bobfoto I'd say definitely, great acropolis on the island too at Lindos
I have become a history buff over the years and Rhodes has wonderful examples of Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman and other historical elements as well as being the site of one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world Colossus of Rhodes - you can see the area on the harbour where it once stood

l am impressed that you remembered when, and what, your 2nd digital shot was - lovely mosaic!!

@michelle58 the file numbering on those early shots helped me realise this was shot number 2 - I was looking for a retrospective shot and looking through Cairo folder (was there this time in 2005/6) and then I remembered I was in Rhodes for New Years in 2003 and that I bought the camera and whulst perusing those shots I noticed the numbering system and that made selecting shot a lot easier - there were prettier and better shots, but none with the significance of this one for me
