great horned owl

I decided to spend some time in the windbreaks during daylight hours in the hopes the owls would be there resting before their evening antics. Sure enough, found one and the chase began once again. If I got too close, off it went to the other end of the windbreak. I stayed out about an hour trekking back and forth and trying to get close. This is severely cropped, but I just can't seem to get closer. I think I'll wait them out now and hope I can find their nest in a month or so.
Serious talons...What a great spotting.

Absolutely amazing capture! I agree with Amanda...serious talons. We hear a pair out in the woods. Saw one swoop down once on a Summer night when it was quite dark, but we've never seen them in the daylight. This was well worth your trekking back and forth!

Oh wow! I'd give anything to see an owl in the wild, much less get such a neat shot. Beautiful!
