This young hawk had a method to his learning process. He would carefully sidestep along the limb with his wings outstretched, then he'd step up onto the small broken branch bit, bob up and down a bit, and then HOP, landing back to the side. He did this over and over and over and over, only occasionally actually getting his feet elevated. It never occurred to me how much practice it took to take that first flight. (My first Lightroom collage!)
