While I saw a few dozen of these butterflies, I learned that in parts of the state they were seeing hundreds. These painted ladies are a distant relative of the monarchs, and they migrate. I am surprised that I am getting a stop over visit, as most of my flowers are gone other than the sunflowers, and I guess these ladies prefer blue and purple flowers. What a pleasure to see all of them passing through though.
