Shortly after sunset eldest spotted this little owl. He pointed it out to youngest as she returned from her walk, and she convinced me to brave the cold for a look. We brought out her spotlight to see what we could see, and what we saw was a little screech owl. I've heard screech owls, but I've never seen one. I didn't realize they were so small! We didn't want to frighten it away, as it is very cold and it seemed settled for the moment, so I got a few quick pictures using the spotlight and we let it be. I'll be on the lookout now, though, to see if I can find him during daylight hours.
