Aftermath of Irene by allie912

Aftermath of Irene

These are just some of the pictures I took on my morning walk. From news reports I learned that 75% of Richmond lost power, including most of these homes. Although I never lost electricity, my school did, so student orientation has been cancelled for tomorrow. My internet service was off until this afternoon but I'd really be a spoiled brat to complain about that!
Here's a link to my other photo for today: http://365project.org/allie912/whatintheworld/2011-08-29
to help put things in perspective.
oh wow! i hope the clean will go quickly and smoothly!

Allison, I went for a drive and stopped a few places to take photos but then I felt so badly for the people that I stopped...was afraid they would be upset with me documenting their bad luck. Yet, in spite of all the trees down, for the most part the rain was not the cause of flooding for us like it was near the coast. Like you, I feel I can't complain...

@hwy61 Actually I wasn't the only person documenting the wreckage. There were lots of pedestrians, including some with cameras, so I didn't like like too much of a voyeur.

Thank you for sharing these. Your pictures really help to share the effects of this storm. I can't believe the size of this tree!

Wow, you were fortunate being in that area. Some of th efotage on the news was bleek.

Wow!

Nice pictures capture the power of nature. Trees are the victims of the storm, then comes the victim of trees..

Knew we could count on you for details - photojournalist that you are.

Wow! Huge tree down in that main pic! Fantastic capture. Glad you escaped relatively unscathed.

Wonderful collage, Allison. It's so nice to see that beautiful green grass.

OMG! Glad no one was in the path of that huge tree and it didn't hit the house. As much as I love trees, they can kill if one is in the way during a storm. Great collage!

@cimes1 You are right Carole. There were deaths associated with fallen trees crashing into houses and cars. Fate is so capricious.

We're still without power but that seems a minor inconvenience compared to those pictures!

Thanks for keeping us up todate great collage

@annc Just got the word that we won't have school tomorrow because still no power. I'm feeling VERY lucky to live where I do.

Just amazing to see the size of those trees. We had several the same size go down. It's hard to unobtrusively take a picture of natural disasters. But the pictures will at least make people understand the destructive force of the storm. Great collage to put it all into perspective.

Wow! Impressive collage!

Wow. I hope you get your power soon.

Wow. My brother is in Annapolis, but they didn't get near the damage. There were some trees blown over, but they also didn't have a decent root system (they had a pretty easy life until that point I think). Glad to hear you're doing well and hope your power comes back on soon!

Oh wow. I am so glad to see that you are safe!

Wow! that is scary. Look at the size of that tree !!
