"I speak for the trees"

Another Unidentified Growing Thing I noticed on my morning walk. There was a whole bunch of these things but I couldn't tell if they were beginning or ending their blooming. They looked like a collection of halloween wigs, but @Weezilou noticed the resemblance to the trees in Dr. Seuss's environmental fable, The Lorax, and I changed the title to reflect that. If you aren't familiar with that character, check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lorax and I think you will agree.
As I stare at this I thought that they looked like human hair. THen I read your comments about halloween wigs. Neat picture.

I like all the guesses. I think it is the end of a clematis - or that is what mine look like.

@Weezilou That's it! I knew I recognized them from somewhere. Should I change the caption?

I have no idea what they are, but I have a photo of them in my project from a couple of years ago. I thought they looked like balls of twine. http://365project.org/melissapike/365/2010-07-11
