After sharing many photos from Florida, it's time to get back to local picture-taking. I stopped in my friend Ellen's science room for inspiration. Here you can see some seeds and the fruit of a sycamore tree. Doing some quick internet research I learned, "The fruit of the Sycamore is ball-shaped and ripens in October. The woody orb maintains its shape through the winter, when it breaks up into dozens of tiny seeds that feature little brown hairs which are scattered about by the wind."
When I was growing up, the local hang-out spot for teens was called The Sycamore. Doing more research I discovered this 50's style drive-in is still in business, serving the same homemade root beer and juicy grilled burgers. There must have been a sycamore tree nearby at one time, to serve as a landmark but I'm afraid it is long gone.
Great shot! I sure loved those old drive-ins. When I lived in Cleveland, our street was lined with sycamore trees. There are a few in our neighborhood---a bit different species. They are pretty but all their pods and large leaves make a huge mess here in the fall.
Cool shot and effective framing. We had some sycamore trees at one of our former homes and I can tell you , you do not want to step on it's "fruit" very hard on the feet.
