My daughter requested fewer flowers, more people in my pictures from Oxford. Here, on the last evening is the "Library and the Academy" study group and our leader, Hannah, the Pre-Raphaelite beauty in the middle. Hannah is originally from New Zealand, and came to Oxford as a Clarendon scholar. Her thesis topic involves the history of publishing, printing, and bookselling, marginalia and children's scrapbooking, and technological developments in illustration and typography as they relate to nineteenth-century movable format books for children. Her interest in children's literature and the history of the book made her the perfect leader for our group of three librarians and a third grade teacher with a passion for children's books. The four students of the group were all from independent schools including a boarding school in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a Quaker school near Philadelphia, a boys school in Greenwich, Connecticut and a coed school in Richmond (me). We immediately formed a bond that only grew stronger as the week progressed. The three librarians decided we ought to give an honorary membership in our library association to our teacher colleague.
Allison, your narratives and pictures from your Oxford trip really capture your excitement and enthusiasm for both your journey and your work. I'm pleased you are safely home and have the memories to treasure forever....btw...in answer to your question on my 'sister' photo....Saturday 3rd August :)
