Torch Run by allie912

Torch Run

Our school has been celebrating our centennial throughout the year. Today we had a Torch Run from the site of the original "Town School" in downtown Richmond along Monument Avenue and on to the the present-day site of Collegiate. Here is the description from the school website:
" - a 9-mile relay from the downtown location that once served as home, to the School's current academic campus on Mooreland Road.
A group of 36 runners - representing the K-12 student body, alums, trustees, faculty and staff - participated in the run, which kicked off in front of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church and included a cheerful rally with the Cougar mascot.
With passers-by honking and police escorts leading the way, the runners passed the torch relay style until they reached Collegiate's campus and entered the Seal Athletic Center. When the final eight Lower School runners burst through the gym's doors, they were greeted by a cheering student body, parents, alums and friends, and a celebration that included live music from RVA Brass. As the school flame was lit, energy peaked with a standing ovation and and invitation from Head of School Steve Hickman to dance in celebration."
I'll say this, Collegiate knows how to give a good party!
