Heckle or Jeckle?

Do you remember the old cartoons featuring a pair of identical magpies who calmly outwitted their foes in the manner of Bugs Bunny? They were named Heckle and Jeckle and the latter had a British accent and the former sounded like he came from New York. This figure greeted me on today's blustery walk, but since he didn't talk, I don't know if he was Jeckle or his American pal.

That was always one of my favorite cartoons. Every so often I look up some of the good old cartoons on-line and watch clips.
