If you are not familiar with American popular culture, you may not realize that the 1976 film Rocky, about Rocky Balboa a down-and-out boxer who found redemption, had a climactic scene on the steps of this museum. That is why I have made the statue of Rocky so prominent. If you watch outside the East entrance, you will see any number of children and athletic young men attempting to run up the full flight of steps just as Rocky did. This is a world class museum and we could have spent the entire week end here. Instead we stole away for an hour and saw just a fraction of what they had to offer. To see a bit of Rocky and listen to the theme of the movie follow this link: http://youtu.be/gjpKMbt0U_g
There are several great museums in Philly. I love the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and the Ben Franklin Science Museum. Nice collage!
