This week, my get pushed challenge was to capture a black and white architecture shot. The weather is gross and it's a busy week being that I am preparing for my son's birthday and party this Friday. I'd love to go downtown for shots there, as my local architecture, such as the Wal-Mart plaza is nothing to write home about.
I decided to head back to the nearby Loveland Castle, the one that was build by an eccentric (read crazy;-) man who was wanting to bring the golden years of chivalry and knighthood back. He began construction of his castle in 1929 and was still working on it when he died in 1981. The organization that he founded, The Knights of the Golden Trail, helped him complete his work and continue to work on it and maintain it today.
A funny thing happened when I was shooting my photos out here today. I was about done when a red pick up truck came heading down the road toward me. I headed back to my van not wanting any confrontation with a knight. After all, I had left my javelin at home. Next time, I go dressed in costume to be less conspicuous. This was my first time being "run off" while taking photos. I just flashed him a winning smile, gave a wave and drove off with my camera full of photos. In your face, Sir Prize;-)!
Cool. Have you been inside? Maggie and I did a thing there several summers ago. Corgis are a very "old" breed so were around for the golden age. These guys hold great family stuff on the weekends - but inside it is pretty gross. I also did a haunted house there many years ago with my kids and that was wonderful.
This is in the States I have found out! I thought it should have been Scotland or England even! Great to learn about! Whack him with your javelin next time!
@wendyhgill It just seems like it:). Thank you, Wendy!!
@fueast Not so much, huh. Maybe he was coming out to see if I was broken down or something. I just saw him coming and ran! Didn't even give him the chance to rescue a damsal in distress (who was tresspassing;-).
@paul2782 I liked that a bunch, too. That's why this one was my favorite of the bunch in fact. That reminds me of a semi recent shot of yours that did not involved a castle. Thanks!
@helixconcepts Love your comments! I agree. Thanks, Laura!!
@soboy5 Thank you, Danny. Send some of your sunshine and warmth...would you;-)?!
@cdonohoue I didn't mind it inside. My kids love it. Such a cool place. Thanks for your comments, Cathy. You up for a meet up next weekend (second weekend of March)? Where? Any ideas?
@steampowered Thanks, Paul. I love that we have a place like this in the states. It's seems so very Scottish.
@automaticslim Andy, I changed my title so that you can NOT call this castle cute. Now it is a haunted castle;-). Thanks, but I wasn't going for cute:).
@maggiemae I learned and was reminded that it is a lance. I must bring some type of knightly weapen, that is for sure. So strange that we have this in the states and in Ohio of all places. Thanks, Maggiemae!
@sjoblues It is really cool. I was glad to have this to shoot for architecture. Who says you have to go to Europe for shots like this;-). Should I have cropped the corner?;-)
@edie Thanks, Edie. It is really cool! Great place to take the kids!
@sailingmusic They actually have a way to stay overnight. It's not too spooky, the processing just makes it look that way more. I think that it would be a great adventure for my husband's cub scout pack!
@adamj I think that it is all in the processing. After Andy gave me a cute castle comment above, I had to change the title to The Haunted Castle. Who wants a cute castle?! Thank you, Adam!
@ggshearron I can absolutely see what you are saying. The other one was a far more unique POV. Thanks for your comments!
@emrob Thanks so much, Mandy! It's a pretty cool place to visit. And you can rent in out for the night for cub scout outings and such! Hope that my hubby takes his den there sometime (and I will go, too:).
Great processing, interesting story to boot.
