Butterfly Garden by alophoto

Butterfly Garden

Yesterday I was trying out new tricks with my camera. I was attempting to capture the butterflies flitting around with a longer exposure. Trouble is, I have a hard time holding perfectly still. This is a UCM shot (unintentional camera movement), but I rather liked the dreamy, painting like effect. If you look close, you can see some butterflies in the shot almost bokeh looking.

I mean, I meant to do this.

Happy Friday and almost weekend, friends!!!
It has created a wonderful painted effect to the garden. Beautiful.

Made for a nice abstract though! Just checked your exif info, you could have dropped your f/ to about 11 which would have brought your exposure time down to under a second. Even if you are on a tripod and you want blur from people (which is what you were aiming at for your trip) 2.5 second is way too long - you'll likely just get grey haze over your shot as they will have come and gone! You could have reduced your f/ number to 11 and if that was still giving over a second increase your ISO to 200 or maybe 400.
Hope that helps...Have a fabulous weekend your self

So let's call it intentional camera movement. I think it works very well - so painterly.

I love the result! Beautiful colours and abstract sort of texture.

Love your description!! But you are right -- it makes a great abstract. A new acronym - UCM -- perfect!

Very different and colorful but does not work well with my Vertigo. Will have to look at it when I am not dizzy already.

@darsphotos Oh lady, soooo sorry. I will try to post less mistakes. Shoot!

Um...yeah...I see a butterfly in there. Of course I do. It's right there by the flower, near the leaf. ;-) Right? LOL

@pasadenarose You are funny. I think that there look to be some white ones in there somewhere in the middle.
