Yesterday I had my first "real" photoshoot. Haley was a stranger that I had noticed doing yoga at the park last time I was there. I had snapped a few photos from afar (how cool is it to see someone doing yoga in front of some waterfalls?!), talked to her and mentioned that also did yoga and that I noticed her. I showed her my photos on the camera (she wasn't disturbed by this thankfully), got her email address and sent them onto her. Trouble was, they turned out pretty crappy as I was taking them on the sly. I offered to do a pro bono shoot for her for practice. She's a newly certified instructor and needed photos for her site so she was very excited at the offer. And I need the practice!
We hung out for about an hour yesterday and got some amazing images. Earlier in the year, I saw an REI catalog with some stunning yoga images. It really inspired me to try to capture something similar. I'm really pleased with how it went...got some great practice, super images and made a new friend!
Good for you Amanda, I remember your story about you not being please and you were unsure if she would be receptive to redoing the shots. You did research as well Ms. Professional. Great capture Amanda. Let us know when she post your photos, this is amazing.
Yeah, I tried that too once - took pictures of a girl from afar, then walked up to tell her that I noticed her and would she like to see the pictures I've been taking of her?
I am surprised that it didn't work out as good for me as it did for you.
Amanda, what I love about this is the way her body mirrors the shape of the falls. What brilliant positioning! Maybe this is the start of a new business for you! ;)
@adamj Mine was good, too. I was so pleased to figure out how to get the exposure right finally. It was really cool to have this as a first photo shoot!
What a wonderful shot, Amanda. How nice that you connected with her and she was wanting some photos for her blog that you were able to do for her. Nice to have a new friend also. FAV
@darsphotos Thanks so much, my friend. So very happy that I got the second chance to take these photos properly...and that some came out great. More than I had hoped actually. Really appreciate the fav.
@cathrinemitch Love your kind comments, Cathrine. So glad I got a second chance.
@paulaw I loved them, too. Now I must go through and process the rest of the shots. Hope she likes them and gets a bunch to use.
@bobfoto Yes...old ones are, too. So glad I got the chance for a redo and that I got some great shots for her to use (and me, too:). I checked with her before posting on 365. I was worried that she would say no.
@megmills Thanks, Meg. So glad that these shots turned out better than the first time around!
@emrob I am going to be a professional yoga waterfall photographer:). I seriously wouldn't mind having photography as a side job, though! Thanks, friend!
@ernmar Thanks, Ernie. Finding her was such a pleasant surprise!!
@wind_of_the_sothern_sea Thanks so much. I was really pleased that they turned out so well. I didn't want to choke and stink at my first real photo shoot.
What a great opportunity - well done for being brave and going up to her with your shots. See what happens when we just step out of that comfort zone. WELL DONE!
