It's not just your mama's favorite catalog and store anymore. It's the view down by the Walgreens at the corner.
That's right, folks, I live in the heart of suburbia, yet I can make my area look rustic by standing a parking lot and shooting down a snowy creek. I guess it is a pretty rustic suburbia. And I'm just 30 minutes from a large city. I really love where I live.
Today school was cancelled for the kids on their first day back due to the weather. We were predicted to get lots of snow and for it to be extremely cold today. Only a dusting of snow and it's cold, but not unbearable. One more day of vacation before they go back to the grind. I think we will make cookies to celebrate.
This is gorgeous! Super inspiring too! I am always using the fact that I live in a less than pretty suburb as an excuse as to why I don't get to take a lot of beautiful outdoor photo's. Well, that and having 4 kids but you have that too. Great photo!
@archaeofrog Yeah, no;-). I'd have to get really far back for that and stand in a busy road. And then the creek wouldn't show up. Thanks for all your great comments, my friend. I really appreciate you!:) True words yesterday.
@jsw0109 Me, too:). You get to work today? It seems not as bad as predicted here, but they cancelled school. Hope your car did ok. Stay warm!!
@amandal I'm snowed in and sick... but even if I wasn't snowed in and sick, businesses were closing left and right last night. This was the first time in 16 or 17 years that the state has closed all state offices except for essential personnel. I'm not essential. It is almost -50 with the wind chill right now, so you can't be outside more than 10 mins at a time. Even being sick I tried to go out and start the clearing process for my car, but there's a foot of snow on it and a foot and more around it...... I'm not getting out anytime soon.... I'll probably till be snowed in tomorrow
I live in Houston, which in all honesty is a pretty ugly town ... but there is beauty all around. 365 helps us see what others might not. Great capture Amanda.
@kittikat Love that, Kitti...thanks so much for those great words. My sis is an artist, my aunts are, too. I always thought that the genes skipped me because I was wretched with art in school. I'm so glad to have found photography!!
Wow, what a gorgeous photo, Amanda. I have taken photos while shopping as well. Just look around and amazing what you see. Nothing like this though. The snow makes everything look so beautiful. FAV
@darsphotos I'm telling you, it's incredible. I just LOVE it. Not sick of it at all. Cold and gray gets old, but the snow is like a dream. Thank you!!! You gotta visit me sometime!:)
@adamj Nice. I was right in the middle of a bridge where people turn into Walgreens, praying no one would take the turn too fast and nail me. I'd like to try ice fishing sometime. How are you doing? Cold enough yet?
I don't think I have ever been below zero til today. My thermometer is all the way at the bottom outside. We are -2 now. The kids got off of school, but way less snow than expected.
I remember living in Portland, OR thinking that we live in a major metropolitan area, but we could still walk out our door and see deer, and nutria (gross!) and pick wild blackberries. It's the best of both worlds!
I suppose that gorgeous creek is fully frozen over now, isn't it? I'd love to see it in the spring....(hint hint)
the good thing, thankfully, (and if you can stay out long enough, or reach your destination without breaking a bone or two from slipping and sliding) is that there are lots of beautiful sceneries like this to shoot. this is very nice, young lady. snow really adds character to an otherwise drab, grey, mundane landscape.
I have noticed the same thing about where I live..suburbs of Atlanta. I can shoot certain things and it looks so rural. Some of the really rural ones I have taken near the lake house...and it IS a bit more "country" but still an extended suburb. This frozen creek looks so pretty! Even if you can turn around and see a parking lot. haha
@espyetta I love Atlanta! It's our halfway point when we are driving to Orlando. Mike and I vacationed there when in college. We camped in Stone Mountain. Have you ever taken photos in that huge church with all the stained glass north of the city on 75? I request you do sometime and tag me. I am dying to see in it.
@jyokota Crazy, huh? Snow makes things look so amazing, but I'll be honest and say I am a bit over it and glad it finally melted. Hope for maybe one more good snow this year for photo ops. Thanks so much, Junko. Can't wait for a real meet up:).
