I think that my son, Lucas, was photobombing me here. He was sick of me taking shots of him and covered his mouth to be difficult. And oddly enough, I liked the way this photo came out the best.
Lucas doesn't make it into my project much. Typically he is upstaged by his cute little sisters. But I intend to change that, and again put more focus on things that matter this year. I did that last year to some degree, but need to remind myself of what's important yet again in the new year.
Lucas is my first born, and is almost 9 years old. I still distinctly remember holding him, exhausted from my drug free laboring, and looking into his perfect, pink little face. When he opened his big intense eyes for the first time, time stood still. I was in awe of this kid, of his amazing and pure eyes. Nothing had ever been so beautiful to me as this moment.
Let me just brag on my kid here for a second, let me give you a peek into his heart. His favorite toys are his Lego collection. Recently, his little sister, Clara left her new Lego girl out and when we came home, we found that Hope (our pup) had chewed her up and destroyed her hair. Clara was crying inconsolably. And do you know what my amazingly unselfish boy did, he got his only Lego girl and took her hair off and gave it to his little sister. Just like that.
Recently, Lucas had a terrible case of whooping cough. I was up with him every night for 5 days in a row helping to get him to stop his coughing fits. He thanked me for helping him and taking care of him and one morning he even asked me what he could do to help me. And my kid folded laundry to help his mama.
His eyes are big, his heart is bigger. My kid has a beautiful soul. I hope and pray that his eyes never get bitter or hardened by life, and that they stay filled with light and love.
His name, Lucas, means bearer of light. And that he is!
What a beautiful portrait of you handsome little man. What a cute boy you have. I can only imagine the emotions coming up from your heart when you saw him for the first time.
Oh me too, hope that he won´t ever have to get bitter, there´s nothing more sad that a beautiful soul that gets distroyd! He´s a cute kid with soulful big eyes and you´re right, this is cool pose! It´s like he had just said out load some secret that he was not allowed to tell
I love your commentary. There's not enough bigging up our kids and I love that you've done that. He sounds like a treasure and his eyes are gorgeous. Your focus is spot on xx
What a fantastic shot of your son, Lucas. Love what you wrote about him from birth till now. He does have a big heart and so much like his Mother. Beautifully done, Amanda. FAV
I enjoyed your description very much. I hope his gentle personality stays with him all his life. You write well, and you captured a good moment with this cute boy.
awww, he's such a sweet little big boy by the sound of it. his kindness does show in his eyes and face. you're doing a good job, young lady, you and your husband. keep it up!
@gailmmeek Truly. Thank you. It felt good to write. It made my son's day to read it. And it was a wonderful reminder for this mama. I am blessed indeed!:)
what a tender-hearted thing to do. kind-hearted he is, and proud mama to notice these moments that make our children who they are and who they will become. lovely portrait series you have going!
Amanda, I've just gone through all three of these, and they're absolutely beautiful portraits both visually and verbally. I truly feel as though I have a sense of each kid's nuances. Really nice work.
Oh, Amanda. Your tribute to this beautiful boy is so lovingly expressed. His photo means even more to your viewers because of how you describe him. Beautiful eyes, and impish covering of his mouth in such a playful way.
@darsphotos So appreciate your sweet fav and support, my friend!
Incidentally, the style in which you've written these reminds me of a really great book called "The Book of Qualities". Click on "Look inside" and you'll see what I mean. http://www.amazon.com/The-Book-Qualities-Ruth-Gendler/dp/0060962526
