I was a newer detective and wanted to make a name for myself. I wasn't taken seriously as a woman. I was leered at, condescended to, degraded. I had been tops in my class in the academy. I was sharp, tough, eager. I was also optimistic that I could help clean up the city, even though it was overrun with crime lords, drugs, dirty cops, you name it.
My informant told me something was going down tonight, something big. My partner was sick and I went it alone. I didn't call for backup. I don't know who I can trust in the force. Hope that wasn't a mistake.
I waited in the dark, still. My body was stiff...it felt like hours of just waiting there in silence. And then I heard stirring around me. My skin began to crawl. Maybe this was it. Something felt off, though. I peered into the inky blackness and saw the glint of a gun down the alley. I heard footsteps behind me. Oh hell...
Well if something is going down, and if it might be me, I am going down guns blazing.
Gunfire erupted. It was coming from all sides. I was hit, in the arm, in the leg. Shit, it hurt like hell.
Time slowed down. I heard sirens, more shots, and the haunting strains of the saxophone wailing out a sad tune on the street corner. I crumpled to the pavement.
@linnypinny@fueast Thanks, ladies. This was a fun theme. But tough to get into position and be still with a night shot/longer exposure, holding a heavy gun in two seconds and put the remote away. Oy.
Either the story goes with the picture or vice versa! I did think of doing something like this with my Night Train to Lisbon shot but couldn't compete with your imagination..... or could I? Too late!
@cathrinemitch Father in law was a cop. Thanks for your great comments, Catherine.
@maggiemae You so can. Do it on your next night train...but maybe not with a gun. I did this in my house, but got worried that what if a neighbor saw me slinging a gun around. Eek.
This is crazy good; both as a shot and a story! You are one talented lady Amanda, I felt like being inside the story and my Goddness that pic has an attitude, you have an attitude! Thank you for taking part in dark story and a fav!
I love this. I especially love your story. I'm waiting to here more, after you awake in the hospital. So, this was done indoors? It looks as if you found a gritty alley somewhere. How in the world did you get your shadow on a fake background?
@bill_fe I have a brick wall in my house. It's actually our 3 seasons room added on out back. It's all windows and the side of the house. It's a rockin' room!! Maybe I will do more, we'll see.
@losthorizon Your story idea helped me write mine. I bought the hat awhile back for your story. Someday I hope to use it... You would rock the 5+2 theme this week...Sin City. How'd I do?
@andrewkru I have a smallish one, and try to put together from things I have. Occasionally, I have to pick up a hat or prop for a shot. this hat and the fake cig, I bought for a similarly themed shot I had planned but never did a few months back. Glad to get the practice and do this this week.
@cashew I am hanging on by a thread. Maybe a gangster is gonna have pity on me cause I am an attractive dame:).
@yrhenwr Funny? Really. Maybe because it is so unlike me. Thanks, David.
@trishaclancy You are so kind, thank you!!! Appreciate the follow, too, lady. You may have forgotten the button?
@losthorizon Soooo glad you approve. thanks, my friend. You inspired the apparel and tale. I'd been thinking about this since your story...bought the props for yours really.
@newbank Thanks...I was cooking up the story all night and got up early to write before the kids got up.
@maggiemae You so can. Do it on your next night train...but maybe not with a gun. I did this in my house, but got worried that what if a neighbor saw me slinging a gun around. Eek.
