Today, my third grade daughter, Emily presented her big project of the year. Her wax museum project where she had to pick a famous person in history and share their story...be that person in fact by dressing up in costume and sharing.
I was so pleased with her choice of Anne Frank.
When she turned 8, I got her The Diary of Anne Frank for her birthday. I wanted her to read a real diary book...she had been reading lameo Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, books about girls named Lu Lu and Ki Ki. Lame lame picture type books. Emily is a great reader and a smart kid and I wanted her to read something with substance and meaning.
Anyway, pleased as punch with how she did...her costume was great and she told Anne's poignant story so well.
What a heartbreaking story it was. If only she had lived and not died at 15 in a concentration camp. But then her story, her voice may not have been heard.
@annied Oh gosh, Annie, those books were seriously LAME!!! She is a very advanced reader and doesn't need to read comic books. I do love a good kids book, but bad ones are so bad:).
Lovely photo and I am most impressed by your daughter's maturity in reading material and choice of person to represent. There is another book by Anne Frank - it's stories and thoughts she wrote while in the Annex. I read it when I was a bit older than Emily but it might be something she'd enjoy now and in a few years. Anne Frank's Tales from the Secret Annex. I see it's available from Amazon.
@amandal lol I didn't mind the bits I have read of those books but it is only bits. I guess my philosophy for reading is the same as movies - sometimes it doesn't have to be an intellectual masterpiece sometines it's jyst fun and relaxation and they all have their time and place - I do love the story of Anne Frank though and @mrslaloggie Annex Tales sound wonderful
That's a big project for third graders - what a wonderful choice she made. This is a big fav for me, not only for the great capture, but for what it represents.
Love this shot! Gorgeous portrait of the cutest little Anne Frank!!! I absolutely loved that diary and couldn't put it down once I started!! Great choice of reading for your daughter and a story not to be forgotten! FAV!
Wonderful to hear about how she engaged with Anne's story. If you haven't already, make sure you check out http://www.amightygirl.com/ (They also have a Facebook page) - I think you'll like it!
You should be proud of her... I know she can be difficult at times, and drive you to distraction, but I think she has an amazing personality, and a very strong mind that just needs to be channeled in the right direction.....and, you are doing such a great job of it!! FAV for Emily!!
It's hard to imagine that time in history. With so many horrible things going on, a young teen still wrote in her diary Congrats to your sweet Emily for sharing Anne Frank's story with her classmates! It's a fav for me!
I must add there's nothing wring with 'kids' books though hahaha
Thank you all for your lovely comments on this shot. Just uploaded her presentation if you want to see it: http://365project.org/amandal/themes-challeng/2015-05-22
