Feeling Nostalgic About the Cycle of Life

As I've just entered the last few weeks of my 30's, I'm pondering my life a lot...where I am at, what I have done, whether or not I have accomplished my purpose, or if I even know what it is.

I was less introspective going into my 30's, but then I was still young (not that I am not now, but really the 40's marks being middle aged and over the hill). I was also pregnant at 30 and had an active toddler to chase. I was very distracted.

I am not devastated to turn 40. I am actually excited to see what a new decade brings. I think it helps that Mike has a 5 year head start on me and I've seen how the 40's look on him. On him, they look good.

In the meantime, I'm going to get busy living it up while I can in my 30's and my next decade is going to start with a bang.

Perhaps, I'm nearly halfway done with my life. I'd better make the most of it so that when I'm done there is more to me than just nice, fun, loving and funny. What will my mark be? What will yours be?

Get busy living or get busy dying.

Me, I chose to live!
Great photo and processing. I like his tails! (My 40s are my favorite decade so far!)

I love seeing and sharing how others view aging - I have never paid much attention to my age - I don't ignore it completely but I did think I was turning 30 when I was actually 29 hahaha
you will love the 40's :)

Really like the sepia - it's just right. I like your philosophy of looking forward and making the most of everything.

Neat b/w shot...From what I read and hear and see, 40 is the new 30 :). I'm 68 so when I look at 40 somethings I see youthful, healthy people at least those 40 somethings who are taking care of themselves :).

I choose life too! Well done you.... and having had a 3 year head start on you in the 40's, I can definitely say - they're fun! They're what you make of them! They're exciting and freeing. Enjoy.
Great shot. x

40 was a blast and 50 was too! I'm staring down the barrel of 60 this summer, but having retired, that's already good too! Have a blast! Nice shot and B&W's a good choice!

Since the first 20 aren't totally your own choices and your life is attached to your parents, 40 marks the second third of your life and if you live to be 100yo which is likely, it's only 2/5ths through! Plenty of time to live fully in each moment. Fun photo! Love this bike.

Great sentiment. 40 isn't so bad. I just turned 49! This guy looks as if he has it right xx

Hubby feeling the same approaching 40..... My friend was widowed at 32, her husband died 30. He had CF. Each day was special.... but not the big stuff, the little stuff... I have been inspired by their lives to relish life. Life in all its fullness. I'm sure though life in all its fullness is grasping the beauty of a messy family house, eating meals together, taking an extra moment to just listen, really listen to the birds sing, to soak up the beauty of that morning sky, to sit and give the kids 5 minutes of all our attention when we are shattered and want it to our selves, to cuddle and kiss as though tomorrow might not happen, to tell the people near you that they are loved, to not be slow to say sorry... You've an eternity to come lady, an eternity to come to be exactly who you were made to be.... lift your head high, enjoy what is on earth but look and search for what more is it come. My 7 year is hopeful it will be great. He told me it will be so as there will be no more colds and no more tennis.....

This is a great photo and your writing about life is truly amazing. You have touched so many lives here alone and let us into your life. I cannot imagine the influence you have made on your friends and family. They are so lucky to have you every day of your life. True, we do not know what lies ahead and we do the best we can and live. Enjoy these last days of your 30's as these are just numbers, not so important in the big picture. I hope you write that book or books in your life as that can be a huge part of your legacy and leave behind all you have given and what you mean to your family and all of your friends, close physically and here online. Sending you warm hugs from someone who's life you have made so much better just being you and caring. FAV for this wonderful photo, Amanda.

Well, at 51now I think you are short changing the 40s a bit. They are the true test of self-definitiin years, full of understanding and fulfillment. It's when you can let go of time-consuming self doubts of the earlier years and start saying no to things with confidence and yes to things of joy! It's a great decade as are all the ones following. Happy birthday!!

A very intriguing shot and a thought provoking narrative. Everything you learn and do up to 40 is just practice. After 40 is application.

Good choice Amanda and I love this shot

Terrific capture and an amazing look into your inner thoughts. I can assure you that 40 is just a number and no different to 39 and 41 8-)

My 40s were a lot more fun than my 30s. Over the course of your life, you will become many different people. The journey from one person to another is exciting.

Oh, this is fun and harkens back to yesteryear. So far, knock wood, the decades get richer, more complex and more rewarding. You have a beautiful family, too, which makes the journey all the better.
