@domenicododaro Do you have Easter Bread in Italy? My husband's family has made this as a family tradition for years. They are Italian (but from US for 3 generations).
@alophoto absolutely yes! Different types from different regions, actually: my family used to make a sweet bread with a hard boiled eggs in it, in Rome they use to provare a soft bread with cheese in the dough. Which part of Italy did your grand-grand-grandparents-in-law come from?
@domenicododaro@alophoto -- I was in Rome until the day before Easter but I never had the bread! Maybe you have to be in a home with an Italian family baker to get such a thing? Intriguing. I was in Poland for Easter two years ago and we scratched designs with a knife into onion-skin dyed eggs that were brown. Amanda, these eggs you have photographed seem classically American colored eggs to me!
@alophoto oops I didn’t get notification of your answer. I am from Calabria, right in the middle between Naples and Sicily! Which bread does your husband cook? Does he remember the Italian name? Is it “cuculo” (pron. coocoolaw) perhaps? @jyokota ah, Easter bread is usually served for Easter breakfast in families, I never saw it in restaurants. Next time you come to Italy, I’ll cook some traditional Italian food!
@jyokota@domenicododaro I want to come too. Visiting Italy is a dream of ours! I'll have to ask Michael about the name of the bread. I've always just known Easter Bread or Italian Easter Bread.
Love seeing the colored eggs, makes me miss those days with my kids.
HAPPY EASTER!
