Moore steps, Sydney, 1868

These steps connect East Circular Quay with Macquarie Street and, unusually in Sydney are constructed of hard wearing basalt known as Melbourne bluestone rather than the softer golden sandstone of Sydney, less suitable for heavily trafficked areas. Originally the steps connected the Wharf with the wool stores, bond stores and warehouses in Macquarie Street commemorated by a plaque at the top off the steps.

Across the water is the Museum of Contemporary Art.

The last of photos from Xmas trip to Sydney.

Great perspective looking across the water.

I like how my eye is drawn into the scene through the steps. Happy New Year!

That's what I was trying to convey. And I was really interested in what it must have been like in the early days of colonisation when the wharf was a bustling port area rather than as it is now, an arts, restaurant and tourism precinct! @taffy

Around Sydney Harbour there are so many great views it's hard sometimes to focus, so to speak! @borof
