The rocks near Wagga Beach, on the Murrumbidgee River, Wagga Wagga NSW.
The large hooks driven into the rocks date from when this spot on the Murrumbidgee was used as part of World War Two bridge building training along the river. More than 47,000 recruits were trained here during the war, many of them Army engineers or 'sappers' as they were called. Part of the training involved simulated attacks by low flying aircraft as pontoon and rope bridges were being built.
Now Wagga beach and Rocks are popular swimming and picnic spots.
