Wallace Hut by ankers70

Wallace Hut

Built in 1889, the heritage listed Wallace Hut is the oldest surviving hut in the Victorian Alps. It was built as a shelter by the Wallace family who grazed their cattle on the high plans between 1869 and 1914. It is now one of a series of high country huts providing refuge for skiers and hikers. For us, the surrounding snow gums are a regularl lunch spot on walks.
Nice capture

Although there is no sign of snow, I can imagine how cozy it can be in winter.

You are right @borof. These mountain huts are only to be used as refuges for those stuck in snow or in severe weather. Inside is basic with a rustic table, wooden shelves for laying out sleeping bags but most important a big fireplace with supplies of dry wood maintained. I'm sure these huts have saved many lives

@joansmor Thankyou.

@wakelys A very useful rustic hut. Looks pretty on a sunny day but very welcome in severe weather.

@tinley23 @wh2021 Kept pretty well and made to withstand snow and severe mountain weather. Thanks for your visit.

@kartia I love the high country as well. Thankyou.
