I love this old wall clock with its definite tick -tock , the room is very quiet when it stops !! It hangs proudly on my living room wall .It is in excellent working order except the it no longer chimes on the hour (thank goodness as it was a very loud chime !! )The only repair it has had was when the winding spring broke in the early 1990's and I was fortunate enough to find a clock maker to replace the vital spring .
This old clock circa 1860 has been in the family since 1881 when my grandmother bought it in a local house auction when the Minister moved from our Chapel to minister in another Parish .
Word of the day -- Clock
P.S. I have just noticed that I have not changed the time on my camera --it should read 10.25.am
It's a beauty Beryl, and so neat that they were able to repair it. My Grandparents old mantle clock had to be repaired, but they replaced the works, still sounds great, but a piece of its history is missing.
I was just noticing the time difference when I read your comment, Beryl!
I've only just changed mine and I think I expected them to do it themselves as they are so clever. A beautiful grandmother clock and a lovely item to have in your living room.
This is gorgeous. My father was a horologist (clock maker) I used to love to tell people that. It is very hard to get something like this fixed anymore as the parts no longer exist. I have my Dad's watchmaker desk and all of his tools - many in velvet lined boxes.
