Day 349 - This is the Basing railway viaduct which tower's over the River Loddon. It was built in the 1830's but caused a major constructional challenge to Joseph Locke (the Railways Chief Civil Engineer) because of the soft fenland along the river. So successful was the railway that by the beginning of the 20th century extra railway lines were required. Consequently the existing bridge was doubled in width, you can just make out the different coloured brickwork at the back of the arch.
