While running an errand downtown today I happened to come across the unofficial town crier of Edmonton. He was standing on the corner of Sir Winston Churchill Square making a variety of announcements. For example did you know that it is impossible to lick your elbow and that Ketchup was once sold as soup.
After taking his photo I had the chance to talk to him for a couple of minutes and I learned that Edmonton actually has a government appointed town crier. However at the moment he lives in Vancouver which for obvious logistical reasons that presents a problem. So this kind gentleman has graciously taken it upon himself to fill in until such time that the official one returns
That is cool! Love the announcements- or pronouncements I should say. I do know you can make soup out of ketchup- although it's not very good. But I did not know that you can't lick your elbow. Of course, I've never thought of trying to lick my elbow, but I'm sure someone out there somewhere may have. lol Great capture!
you can lick your elbow if your tongue is long enough. hahahaha! interesting fellow - he looks more like captain jack sparrow in the last "pirates of the caribbean" movie. cool shot, brian!
@summerfield Only you would come up with a solution to the impossible. I never thought about the Jack Sparrow comparison until you said something but it is true
I think i remember someone in our family saying that my grandfather was a town crier, before they emigrated to Australia on the 14th-8-1925. fun pic by the way.
So Edmonton's town crier lives in Vancouver? Yes, I see how that would be a problem. I would have thought a little planning maybe could have sorted that a little better, lol. Also, I just tried to lick my elbow.
Awesome! I knew about the elbow thing. I told my 5 year old that it was impossible and she is pretty determined that one of these days, she is going to accomplish it! Haha. It is funny to watch. :)
What an interesting job to take upon yourself. He must have a lot of free time on his hands. But I think it'd be really interesting to have to come up with a new fact and a few announcements to yell out ever day. I'll bet he was quite a character to talk with.
I wonder if Saskatoon has one.
