A Glimpse into the Past by bkbinthecity

A Glimpse into the Past

Yesterdays photo was of two buildings. One of those was the Sobey's Grocery Store. So today I decided that I would share a photo with you of the building that once stood where Soby's is today.
The Cecil Hotel was built in 1906 and when it opened it was considered one of Edmonton's finer hotels.. The three story structure had a long life before closing in 2003. When it was closed however it was a far cry from its original beauty. It was closed by the Fire Department for having several hazardous fire conditons. So it st empty for a few years until it was torn down and Sobey's built there store on this location
So this picture I believe was one that I took about 2002 shortly before it closed.
This is so beautiful enlarged, Brian. Lovely lighting and pov. I've never asked, but do you ever use a tripod for any of your photos? Just wondering if I should invest in one. :)

Great lighting, once again. Interesting contrast of new and old.

Something realy pleasing to the eye in this photo maybe its the lighting as others have said but I like it coz it has a relaxing feel where most building shots seem v.busy

wonderful nostalgic shot, brian. yes, you should invest in a tripod. black's always has them on sale, they're very sturdy. i've had mine for almost a year now and i've lugged it everywhere since i started this hobby. you should check your local black's store.
