Alex Taylor School by bkbinthecity

Alex Taylor School

Today I had to wait for Melody to meet me downtown after work so that allowed me the chance to go for a walk and take a few pictures.
This is the Alex Taylor, which was named after an early city pioneer. He played a a huge role in a number of firsts in Edmonton history. The first telegraph line, the first telephone company, the first electric company and he helped bring in a press to be used in the first newspaper.
This elementary school was built in 1907-08 and was used until 2001. Today it is home to E4C a non-profit group that helps those less fortunate to develop skills and abilities that they can use to better themselves.
Great history!

I am so glad they are repurposing the school. I think this was a great time in school architecture - when I look at this, I remember the smell of the old heating system in the winter time.
