First let me thank everyone for all of your kind thoughts and prayers over the past few days in regards to Melody's uncle who passed away. We really appreciate all of them. So I have not been part of a theme or challenge for a while so I decided to join in on one this month. The word for today is telephone and when I saw that this is what instantly came to my mind. This is located in Chinatown in downtown Edmonton. I do love the fact that they designed these specifically for Chinatown. It was a lovely evening and as I took the shot I noticed a man standing off to the side but decided to include him in the shot. Tomorrow is our Labour Day holiday and the weather is supposed to be really hot which I do not mind when we are going to spending a lot of the day outside
Oh this is so cool! I just commented on Rob Wareham's site...@barrrowlane who posted a red phone booth. I told him we never see them here (in the US)...so cool that you posted one also. Great shot....fun that is in Chinatown also.
Thanks for taking a look at my photo of the red telephone box. As I said they are slowly being de commissioned in the UK and it is not easy to find one that is still used for its original purpose. Many are being bought by local communities for £1 and used in different ways like the one here http://365project.org/barrowlane/365/2013-07-02 in the village where I live.
Some times these word challenges inspire us to go out and photograph things we have spotted to share with others. Your photo shows that. Thanks for sharing.
First my condolences for the loss of your much loved uncle, you will miss him.
A wonderful old telephone box, not unlike ours at first glance except ours have shorter windows & sit straight on the ground plus of course the wording is different. Thank you for showing us this.
It is so wonderful to see an old telephone booth like this. I have not seen one around in years. Nice shot of it, Brian. Hope you enjoy your Monday off. It is nice to have the three days and make it a short week.
Telephone booths are really becoming an endangered species! But with cell phones and iPads and the fact that most people have them, I guess they are not needed so much. It's a good thing we're keeping a photographic record of them because the folks that used them won't be around forever to describe them or say what they were used for! Nice candid.
the 'telus' sign just sort of wrecked it for me but this telephone booth is awesome! imagine if we would have something like this in toronto - taj mahal in little india, the basilica in little rome, a pagoda in chinatown; why the possibilities are endless. but the bastards in city hall would probably ruin the idea with their bickerings and fighting.
