Back to my historical buildings project. This the North Edmonton Telephone Exchange Building.
It opened in 1912 and served as the exchange building until 1958. After that it became home to the Historical Exhibits Building which was a local pioneer museum.
In 1973 it became the home of the City of Edmonton Archives.
Today it is the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Research Centre
Interesting history. I wonder if the conduits that brought in all the phone lines are still accessible? Or they all overhead wires? I never paid attention to phone/power lines back in 1958, even with a phone pole outside our house.
What a great history to this building! And the structure itself is a handsome building. (I'm partial to red brick and I like all the windows and that decorative top floor (?) Fav
@ludwigsdiana Diana glad you enjoyed this one. I have been researching local history for a number of years and I love it so much that a little rain is not going to stop me from getting some pictures
