Another One Bites The Dust

I pass this barn every day on the way to school...the top picture I took on March 2nd and the bottom was taken yesterday, March 6th. When we were driving home from Des Moines yesterday I noticed something weird out of the corner of my eye and couldn't believe it when I looked over and noticed this barn had evidently collapsed so I quick took a pictue of it as we drove by yesterday. I had previously posted this poem but it seemed fitting for this collage.

TAKE MY PICTURE PLEASE

a little old barn
touched by time
with it’s own charm..
the weatherd wood
shines bright in the sun..
Proud and still standing..
(it’s time isn’t done)………
Think of the tales
that could be told
if barns could talk
of memories they hold..
each one is different
no two are the same..
to see them fading
away, is a shame.
so if you happen upon
a old one please take
a picture and treasure
the portrits they make..
for someday they will
be old memories…
this one was saying
“take my picture, please”!

Poem by Connetta Jean

Sorry I haven't been around much lately to view and comment on all of your pictures....will be playing catching up tomorow when I have a little more time.
Wow...This is pretty sad. The old barns make great photos but it's sad to think about losing such great buildings. Very nice collage.

Soon will be gone all together. I have been taking photos of some of our architecture in town lately because they are building a huge railroad bridge, and in the course of all this construction, they are demolishing many properties.

WOW is right! What a fitting poem. It's sad to see that barn demolished. We have a few out in the country by us. I'm going to copy this poem and frame it next to some of my pictures. Thank you for sharing.

Wow, what a difference from the other photo

Both shots are pretty amazing and it's great that you've been able to bring it to us in collage format. What a huge building to collapse like that!

Such a shame to see the attractive old barn reduced to rubble, but I guess renewal is a constant theme.

I have always said "one still wind will blow it away". Finally , proof that it actually can happen!

Oh, how sad! So great that you have the before and after!

Oh it is sad; so glad you captured the picture of it just last week!
Goes to show you that you better not wait until tomorrow, right? That's true in more ways than one.

oh no! how incredible that you have both shots though!

Both are nice photos. I am glad you were able to capture the picture of it before the barn came crashing down. How sad though that another old barn is no longer.

Paula, you must feel good for having taken this great photo. Perhaps the owners might like it as a memory. I think about doing that with a couple of my photos of barns from the neighborhood. Thanks for your nice comments on my tree shots. I think the tree in the sun is pretty but the one in the stark weather is better because it isn't!

I just read more of your comments. Thanks so much. You are very kind. I think one of the neat parts of 365 is learning from each other. The two view of the snow dunes was fun. On my computer screen the two views are very cool to view. Try taking shots this way and see what happens. Also, thx for what you said about the sea gull. It is really cropped down and I was happy it still looked clear.

Delapitated bans are the coolest :)

looks like it imploded? I hate to see old buildings go. Your collage depicts it well. Nicely done!

I love the poem with this collage! So sad, but really beautiful! You did your job, now we remember...

Thank you everyone for all the nice comments....I've take pictures of this barn many times over the past few months. I had a feeling it wasn't going to be around too much longer but I never posted any of them on here. I even told Joey last week it looked like the wind could blow it over any minute. Still not sure if it fell down or the owners knocked it down. Looks like it just caved in to me though. I took more pictures of the heap this morning before they clean it up!

@wac You're very welcome Wendy, it's a pleasure to view your photos and read your comments....I can learn a lot by following you! :)

I 've been feeling like a broken record lately with all the barn pics but I'm glad I did take a LOT of this particular barn. It's sad to see them in such decay allover the place, only to be replaced with those metal buildings! :(

Gosh - and it was such an attractive structure - great story and poem.

Oh, dear...
March 9th, 2011
Oh wow! It is a good thing you got a great shot of the barn before it collapsed :)
March 9th, 2011
Amazing before and after, Paula. Good for you for preserving the memories of these wonderful structures.
March 10th, 2011
Wonderful shots . . . too bad, though!
March 10th, 2011
