I've just looked up the sweet chestnut tree on Wikipedia and found that although it is widely found in the UK, it is actually native to South Eastern Europe and Asia Minor. It is from this tree that we get our chestnuts for roasting at Christmas, and in Europe the flour from the nuts is used in cooking. It's amazing what you find our through 365 !If you want to know more then check out this link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castanea_sativa
It's my favourite!! I think the horse chestnut came from America?? John Tradescant 'raised' the first imports anyway - I got that from a Phillipa Gregory novel!!
