This is the seedhead of the purple salsify flower (also known as goatsbeard) which I posted on June 10th. I've been watching and waiting patiently but didn't realise it would take so long to develop! It grows on a local meadow where we take Betty for a walk. I'm hoping to be able to grow some of the seeds and spread the joy for others to enjoy. very cool pic, interesting stuff. The common name of goats beard is a totally different plant around here ... a large plant, more bush like, Aruncus.
The google images show both types of plants.
